Glance and USI empower army personnel and families through Cybersecurity Skilling Workshop

Bengaluru/National, 16 April 2025: In a significant step toward fostering digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness among Indian Army personnel and their families, Glance, the world’s first lock screen and AI first innovation platform, in collaboration with the United Service Institution (USI) of India, India’s premier defence and security think tank, conducted a skilling workshop on cybersecurity. Held at the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) centre, a key regiment of the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers, the workshop titled ‘Empowering Communities: Citizen Cyber Safety and Skilling Workshop – Promoting Digital Literacy and Safe Cybersecurity Practices’ aimed at equipping soldiers and their families with critical digital skills to navigate the evolving cyber threat landscape.

Organised under the ‘Glance for Good’ initiative, this cybersecurity skilling workshop aimed at promoting digital literacy and safe internet practices among Indian Army personnel and families. This CSR initiative leverages technology to bridge the digital divide through partnerships with defence institutions and NGOs. The initiative supports national security by equipping military communities with cybersecurity skills while fostering a more digitally empowered India. The workshop reflects Glance’s commitment to creating cyber-aware citizens and strengthening the Army’s digital resilience.

Dr. Subi Chaturvedi, Global SVP, Chief Corporate Affairs & Public Policy Officer, InMobi Group said, “The ‘Glance for Good’ program is rooted in our founder Naveen Tewari’s vision to ’empower, educate, and protect’ our nation’s defenders and youth. This cybersecurity workshop embodies our commitment to safeguarding our armed forces against growing digital threats like cybercrime, online fraud, digital arrests and operational security breaches. By equipping Indian Army personnel and their families with critical cybersecurity skills, we’re not just protecting individuals but fortifying our national security infrastructure. In today’s digital battlefield, awareness and cyber skills are our strongest weapon, and we’re honoured to partner with USI in this crucial mission for our armed forces.”

Dr. Subi added that conducting this workshop at the Madras Engineering Group holds special significance, as it directly serves those who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation’s digital and physical borders.

Toolkit for the Frontlines of Cyber Warfare

The workshop also saw the launch of a cyber-awareness toolkit for Army personnel and their families with Data Security Council of India (DSCI) as the Knowledge Partner. The workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from over 700 Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks, including their family members, who engaged in interactive sessions focusing on critical cybersecurity topics. One of the key areas covered was “safe online behaviour”, where the participants learned best practices for protecting personal information, recognizing phishing scams, and maintaining privacy on social media platforms.

Maj Gen (Dr) Pawan Anand, AVSM (Retd), Director, Centre for Emerging Technology for Atma Nirbhar Bharat (CETANB), USI said, “This collaboration with Glance represents a critical step in building cyber-resilient communities. As digital threats evolve, empowering our youth with cybersecurity awareness is no longer optional but a national imperative. Through initiatives like this skilling workshop, USI remains committed to fostering Atma Nirbhar Bharat by creating digitally aware citizens who can safely navigate our increasingly connected world. And we congratulate Dr Subi and her team for such pioneering and timely initiatives”

A Blueprint for National Cyber Preparedness

This collaboration underscores a broader vision: to make cyber literacy a fundamental skill for every Indian, especially those entrusted with the nation’s safety. As India strengthens its position on the global digital frontier, these initiatives show that cybersecurity is no longer a siloed IT concern, but a cornerstone of modern defence strategy. With more such workshops planned nationwide, Glance and USI are charting a bold new path in the convergence of technology, national security, and citizen empowerment.
