With marquee names, fresh ownership, and a growing interest and participation, this season is a massive leap forward for Indian esports.”

Mr. Rohit Potphode, CEO & League Commissioner of GEPL and President – Esports at JetSynthesys, added: “This league is all about building a strong and viable future for competitive gaming in India. Season 2 brings together talent, technology, and vision — creating a platform that’s exciting, aspirational, and made for today’s generation of players and fans.”

Played on Real Cricket™, a game with over 350 million downloads, GEPL offers a unique team-based esports format that merges the thrill of competitive cricket with the energy of the digital gaming universe.

Season 2’s momentum began with a high-stakes Player Auction held on April 3. Each of the six franchises were allocated a fixed purse of ₹10 lakh, with ₹2 lakh reserved for one marquee player per team—assigned via a spin-the-wheel format prior to the auction. The remaining ₹8 lakh was used by each team to strategically bid on seven additional players from a pool of the top 100 players, plus two marquee players, re-entered into the auction. Players were categorized into three tiers—A, B, and C—with base prices ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000 and incremental bid rules to ensure competitive dynamics. Teams will also receive 3 reserve players from the unsold pool to cover any unavailability during the tournament.

Intense bidding at GEPL Season 2 Player Auction

The GEPL Season 2 Auction was full of excitement, with Jagdish Kumar becoming the highest bid at ₹2.9 lakh. A total of ₹44.65 lakh was spent from the ₹48 lakh auction purse, and ₹56.65 lakh out of ₹60 lakh including marquee players. Mumbai Grizzlies made strong moves by picking 4 of the top 15 players. Chennai Falcons, Delhi Sharks, and Bengaluru Badgers have built some of the most balanced squads in the league, combining experience with young talent. One of the most talked-about names is Golden Kumar, expected to make a big impact this season. GEPL Season 2 is set to bring thrilling action and top-level competition.

This year’s GEPL also introduces a stellar roster of franchise owners, blending cultural relevance and new-age influence. The Delhi franchise is led by Peyush Bansal, Co-founder and CEO of Lenskart. The Bengaluru franchise is co-owned by Nikhil Kamath (Co-founder, Zerodha), Ankit Nagori (Founder, Curefoods), and Prashanth Prakash (Partner, Accel). Chennai’s franchise is backed by Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman of TVS Capital Funds Limited, Madhusudanan R, Co-founder of M2P Fintech and Arjun Santhanakrishnan, Group CEO of GS Global. The Mumbai franchise welcomed Sara Tendulkar as the owner, marking her debut in the world of esports. Together, these dynamic owners reflect GEPL’s mission to push boundaries and create a sustainable, high-impact esports ecosystem in India.

Since its inaugural season, the league has witnessed exponential growth, with a fivefold increase in player interest, reaching 910,000 registrations compared to 200,000 in Season 1. Last season alone, GEPL recorded a staggering multiplatform reach of over 70 million and 2.4 million+ minutes of streamed content, reflecting the league’s growing resonance with the gaming and cricket-loving audience across India.

With revamped team formats, innovative auction dynamics, and India’s brightest esports talent, GEPL Season 2 is poised to elevate cricket gaming to new heights.
