· Ionic GIFT City Fund is backed by a research-driven framework for selecting up to 35 global innovators
- Investors can use their LRS and OPI limits for global diversification
July 31st, 2025 | Bengaluru: Reflecting the growing demand among Indian high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) for global diversification, Ionic Asset has launched the Ionic Global Innovation Fund (GIF)—a differentiated, research-driven strategy designed to provide long-term exposure to innovative global companies. This Category-III AIF is one of the first funds in the AIF space with a deep research infrastructure, designed for patient investors with a long-term outlook, particularly HNIs, NRIs, family offices, and institutions seeking global alpha generation and tax-efficient structures.
Structured through GIFT City feeder and global master route, GIF provides access to global growth stories across the US, Europe, China, and East Asia through a sector-agnostic, geography-agnostic, select stock portfolio. Based on a long-only strategy, up to 35 global innovators with demonstrated profitability are chosen through a rigorous in-house framework led by deep research from a 20+ member analyst team with expertise in key global markets through a strategic partnership. The fund helps investors use their LRS (Liberalized Remittance Scheme) – up to USD 250,000/year and OPI (Overseas Portfolio Investments) limits- up to 50% of the net worth of companies, for currency and country diversification, especially when mutual fund limits are fully utilised. Unlike typical feeder funds, it provides more efficiency in global investing by creating dollar denominated assets and enabling direct access to experienced investment managers.
The fund uses a M.O.V.E. framework—Moat, Operating efficiency, Valuation, and Earnings, to identify global industry leaders that consistently demonstrate strong margins, earnings quality, and financial resilience. Notably, 95% of the portfolio targets GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) profitable companies with strong free cash flows, current ROE (Return on Equity) of ~26%, and current average EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) margin of ~30%.
Ankita Pathak, Macro Strategist and Global Equities Fund Advisor, Ionic Asset, said, “Investments should be opportunistic, not limited by geography. Many investors are now using GIFT City AIFs for global diversification. The Ionic Global Innovation Fund comes at a time when Indian HNIs are rebalancing their portfolios to include more international assets, seeking not just returns but also resilience and relevance in a rapidly shifting global economy. There has been a need for a global research-backed direct equity portfolio in today’s HNI investments.”
Nalin Moniz, CEO, Ionic Asset, said, “While home-country bias remains strong among HNIs, global diversification is no longer an afterthought. In an increasingly sophisticated asset management landscape, we are seeing investors seek tax-efficient structures. The Ionic Global Innovation Fund, offers HNIs and institutions access to the world’s most innovative companies through a sector and geography-agnostic investment approach.”
