“I’ve Actually Experienced This World Firsthand”: Paramvir Singh Cheema Opens Up About Prime Video’s The Pyramid Scheme and the Time He Fell for a Similar Trap

Ever since Prime Video unveiled the trailer for The Pyramid Scheme, audiences have been quite intrigued about the world it inhabits, where ambition, influence, and the promise of quick success can change lives overnight. At the heart of the story is Goldy, played by Paramvir Singh Cheema, a charismatic young man determined to have quick wealth and an easy path to success and to build a better future through Jumbolife, a pyramid marketing company, only to find himself drawn into a system that blurs the line between aspiration and deception. But did you know that this unconventional story hit close to home for Paramvir? Ahead of The Pyramid Scheme’s global premiere on June 5, the actor recalls falling for a similar trap that promised easy money and quick returns.

Opening up about his own brush with such a scheme, Paramvir revealed, “Someone in my locality was into this, and I am one of them, joh bol sakte hain, ‘main iska shikar raha hoon.’ (You could say I was one of the victims.) At that time, I was young, must’ve been in my early 20s. A neighbour approached me saying, ‘Param, aise aise hai, tu paise dega aur tujhe paise milenge.’ (Param, this is how it works: you invest money, and you’ll make money in return). When you’re young and don’t have a lot of money, it all sounds very exciting. Aisa lagta tha ki thode paise laga denge, aur baithe baithe paise aa jayenge. (It felt like I could invest a little money and earn money without doing much.) It felt like a great idea at the time. But after a while, that person stopped responding, and I remember thinking, ‘Yaar, yeh kya hai?’ (What is going on here?) When I told my father about it, he just laughed and said, ‘Yaar, tum yeh kya chakkaron mein padh rahe ho!’  (Why are you getting yourself into these kinds of things?) So yes, I’ve actually experienced this world firsthand.”

Sharing some insights about his character, Goldy, he added, “Goldy is very reactive. He reacts to every situation and every emotion around him. Even if someone gives him a look, his immediate thought is, ‘Usne mujhe aise kyu dekha?’ (Why did he look at me like that?) That was the main psyche I wanted to capture. What excited me most was that Goldy gave me the chance to play a side of myself that people haven’t seen much on screen.”

Produced by The Viral Fever, created by Shreyansh Pandey, directed by Ashish R Shukla and Shreyansh Pandey, and written by Akshendra Mishra, The Pyramid Scheme stars Paramvir Singh Cheema, Ranvir Shorey, Shekhar Suman, Aanjjan Srivastav, Alfia Jafry, and Ashish Raghava in the lead roles, along with  Akhilendra Mishra, Smita Bansal, Vijay Kumar, Indresh Malik, Ravi Bhel, Sushant Singh, Sonal Jha, and Sadanand Patil in pivotal roles. The Pyramid Scheme will premiere on June 5 exclusively on Prime Video in Hindi across India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
