– Six acclaimed Korean performances spanning traditional and contemporary arts to be screened monthly from July to December this year
Korean Cultural Centre India will present a monthly screening series of some of Korea’s most celebrated performing arts productions from July to December 2026 through ‘SAC on Screen’ (Seoul Arts Centre on Screen), the flagship digital performance initiative of the Seoul Arts Centre.
‘SAC on Screen’ is a project that transforms world-class performances and exhibitions into high-definition films, making them accessible to audiences free of charge across Korea and around the world. Through this initiative, Korean Cultural Centre India will introduce Indian audiences to a diverse range of Korean performing arts, including musicals, ballet, opera, classical music, theatre, traditional performing arts, and contemporary performances.
As Korean cultural content that blends traditional heritage with modern storytelling – such as the recently-acclaimed animation ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ – continues to capture global attention, this screening series offers audiences an opportunity to experience the artistic roots and creative excellence of Korean performing arts.
The programme features an impressive line-up of productions, including the royal court ritual music ‘Jongmyo Jeryeak’, the original musical ‘Ahn Jung-geun, A Dance in the Heaven’, the award-winning puppet theatre production ‘Dallae Story’, the contemporary dance performance ‘The Rising World: Spirit of Water’, the classical concert ‘Spirit of Beethoven’, and ‘The Illusion Masterpiece’, featuring internationally renowned illusionist Lee Eun-gyeol.
The opening screening on July 10 featured ‘Spirit of Beethoven’, a powerful classical concert conducted by Lim Hun-jung with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, showcasing some of Beethoven’s most celebrated symphonies and piano concertos.
The original musical ‘Ahn Jung-geun, A Dance in the Heaven’ artistically reinterprets the life and ideals of Korean independence activist Ahn Jung-geun while conveying a universal message of peace.
‘Dallae Story’ is a moving puppet play that tells the story of a family affected by war through the eyes of a young girl named Dallae. The production has received international acclaim, winning awards at prestigious festivals, including the World Festival of Puppet Theatres in Charleville-Mézières, France, as well as festivals in Spain and China.
‘Jongmyo Jeryeak’, designated as Korea’s ‘Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 1’ and inscribed on UNESCO’s ‘Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’, is a comprehensive performance that combines ritual music, songs, and dances traditionally performed during the royal ancestral rites of the Joseon Dynasty.
‘The Rising World: Spirit of Water’ is an experimental contemporary dance production inspired by the story of a princess trapped within water and time, combining cinematic storytelling with innovative stage performance. The series concludes with ‘The Illusion Masterpiece’, a spectacular performance by Korea’s leading illusionist Lee Eun-gyeol, showcasing the artistry of Korean magic through compelling storytelling and sophisticated stagecraft.
Hwang Il Yong, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India said, “We hope this programme offers Indian audiences a rich and diverse artistic experience. Through performances ranging from traditional arts and contemporary creations to classical music and illusion, we hope audiences will discover the depth, creativity, and unique charm of Korean culture.”
