“LPG for Rs 450 to Everyone in Jharkhand – Even Infiltrators?” BJP Questions Congress’ Election Pledge

AICC General Secretary and Jharkhand in-charge, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, has stirred controversy with a statement made during an election rally on Thursday, November 14. He announced that if the Congress party comes to power, all citizens of the state would receive gas cylinders at a subsidized price of Rs 450, without regard to whether they are “infiltrators or not.”

Speaking to supporters in Chandrapura, located in the Bermo constituency, Ghulam Ahmed Mir promised, “If we form the government, from December 1, gas cylinders will be provided at Rs 450. This will be for everyone—whether they are Hindu, Muslim, or even infiltrators—without any distinction. All citizens of Jharkhand will benefit, irrespective of other factors.”

The BJP has reacted sharply to this statement, accusing the Congress of playing politics with national security. BJP leaders have labeled Mir’s comments as “anti-national” and criticized Congress for its alleged tendency to appease certain groups for political gain. The controversy comes amid rising allegations by BJP leaders that the ruling JMM-led coalition is aiding infiltrators in the state for vote bank purposes.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hit back, saying, “Congress’s Ghulam Ahmed Mir’s statement about providing gas cylinders to infiltrators is yet another indication of how the Congress-JMM-RJD government is protecting infiltrators in Jharkhand.”

In a separate rally held in Birni, Giridih district, Chouhan further alleged that large numbers of infiltrators had entered Jharkhand with the help of the state government, acquiring voter and ration cards. This, he claimed, was part of a broader strategy to secure political leverage.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also weighed in during a rally in Bokaro, stating, “Congress’s promise to provide gas cylinders to Hindus, Muslims, and infiltrators shows how they are undermining the rights of the tribals. The BJP will not let infiltrators take over the rightful claims of the tribal communities.”

The election process continues with the second phase of voting scheduled for November 20, following the first phase held on November 15. Vote counting will take place on November 23.
