Nationwide Outcry Among Hindus Over Ganapati’s Alleged Arrest: Karnataka Leadership Criticized

The alleged detainment of Lord Ganesha by the Karnataka government has sparked widespread outrage across India. During a Ganesh immersion procession in Congress-ruled Karnataka on September 13, stone-pelting disrupted the event.

Instead of apprehending the assailants, the police detained protesters and confiscated the Ganesha idol, escalating tensions.

This incident has reverberated beyond Karnataka, with Hindu communities in Maharashtra also expressing their anger. Many view this as an unprecedented and deeply offensive act in the history of independent India.

Political Reactions to Ganapati Aarti
In response to the controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a Lord Ganesha Aarti, which drew heavy criticism from Congress and Mahavikas Aghadi. Simultaneously, Chief Justice of India Dhananjay Chandrachud, a native Marathi speaker, installed Shri Ganesha at his residence, sparking further political debates. Critics began questioning the credibility of Chief Justice Chandrachud for participating in religious activities.

Traditionally, Hindu festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi are meant to inspire unity and affection, but many now argue that Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray faction have neglected this spirit. Hindutva advocates are calling out these political figures for hosting Iftar parties while opposing Ganapati Aarti.

BJP’s Response to Congress Criticism
In defense, the BJP reminded Congress of past events, such as when former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hosted an Iftar party in 2009, attended by then Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan. BJP allies, including Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, criticized Congress for objecting to Modi’s participation in the Aarti while ignoring similar events in the past.

Controversial Remarks at Sambhaji Brigade Event
Adding fuel to the fire, controversial remarks were made during a Sambhaji Brigade anniversary event. At this gathering, patron Sharad Pawar and Congress MP Shahu Maharaj were present when derogatory comments were made about Hindu deities, particularly targeting Prabhu Sri Ramachandra and Swami Samarth. Sharad Pawar and Shahu Maharaj were even seen laughing during the crude remarks.

Following the backlash, Sharad Pawar visited the Raja of Lalbagh, possibly to manage the situation. Critics have long pointed out that while Pawar regularly attends Iftar parties, he has not participated in Hindu traditions like the Raigad ceremony or the Wari pilgrimage.

Political Fallout and Religious Tensions
The reactions from political parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and others reliant on fatwa politics have led to growing concerns about the future of Hindu rights. At the Sambhaji Brigade event, another controversial statement made by Gyanesh Maharao, about an offensive act in a holy site, further inflamed Hindu sentiments.

The alleged arrest of Lord Ganesha and the divisive political responses reflect the ongoing friction between religious customs and political maneuvering in India.
