Professor Max Lu Shares His Vision for UOW India

Bengaluru, July 15, 2025: The University of Wollongong’s new Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor G.Q. Max Lu AO, has stepped into his role with a bold vision: UOW’s international campuses are central to the University’s global identity and future success.

Officially beginning his term in May, Professor Lu expressed his enthusiasm for leading UOW during a pivotal phase of international growth—with India positioned at the heart of this expansion. Reflecting on his firsthand experience, he shared:

“My visit to India in January 2025 reaffirmed what I’ve long believed: this is one of the world’s most dynamic education landscapes. You feel it everywhere—the energy, the hunger for progress, and the aspirations of millions of talented young people eager to learn, innovate, and lead. UOW India isn’t just a campus; it’s our commitment to being part of India’s transformative journey.”

Professor Lu’s tour of the UOW India campus in GIFT City left a profound impression. He recalled:

“Walking through the campus, I felt an unmistakable buzz—a sense of hope and potential. The staff and students I met radiated pride in building something meaningful together. Their passion mirrored the vibrancy of India’s higher education sector and deepened my excitement for what we’ll achieve here.”

Since opening in November 2024, UOW India has launched postgraduate programs in Computing (Data Analytics) and Financial Technology. Designed with industry at its core, the campus leverages partnerships with global leaders like IBM and Odoo to ensure graduates thrive in tomorrow’s economy.

As UOW’s India campus marks a strategic leap in extending the University’s world-class education in South Asia. Drawing on his leadership experience at the University of Queensland and the University of Surrey, Professor Lu envisions UOW India as a beacon of innovation and collaboration:

“We’re creating a campus that embodies UOW’s excellence—academic rigor, industry ties, and student-centric values—while embracing the unique aspirations of India’s youth. This isn’t about transplanting a model; it’s about fostering genuine partnerships, opening doors, and sharing knowledge that uplifts communities.”

He emphasized UOW India’s critical role in keeping the University at the forefront of global education, particularly in fintech and computing:

“My vision is for UOW to be a truly global institution, rooted in the regions it serves. Inspired by the ambition I witnessed across India, I’m confident UOW India will become a hub where talent meets opportunity—and where together, we shape a better future for the world.”
