Project Management Institute (PMI) unveils new ISO accredited certification for Project Management Office (PMO) professionals

National, February 06th, 2025: Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading association for project professionals, today announced the launch of the new PMI Project Management Office Certified Professional (PMI-PMOCP)™certification, available from February 4, 2025. This globally recognized credential empowers PMO professionals or those aspiring to work in a PMO with the expertise and resources to lead customer-focused, value-driven PMOs, impacting strategic decision-making and organizational success.

The PMI-PMOCP is a significant advancement in PMO certification, offering a comprehensive program aligned with the new PMI®  publication, Project Management Offices: A Practice Guide. Developed in collaboration with experienced PMO leaders and experts globally, the guide introduces the innovative PMO Value Ring™ Framework, enabling PMOs to become customer-centric partners focused on delivering measurable value. The PMI-PMOCP certification also holds ISO accreditation, signifying its adherence to global quality and excellence standards.

Building upon the foundation of the PMO Certified Practitioner (PMO-CP)™  certification acquired from PMO Global Alliance in December 2023, the PMI-PMOCP is designed to meet the evolving needs of modern PMOs. It validates expertise in key areas, equipping professionals to design, implement, operate, improve, and lead effective PMOs.

Talking about the launch, Amit Goyal, Managing Director – South Asia, said, “The PMI-PMOCP represents a significant leap forward for PMO professionals and the organizations they serve. This certification isn’t just about best practices; it’s about empowering PMO leaders to drive strategic alignment, optimize resource utilization, and deliver measurable value. As India progresses towards achieving their Vision 2047 goals with robust development and mega projects across sectors, organizations need PMOs that are more than just project administrators. They need strategic partners who can navigate uncertainty and drive transformative change. The PMI-PMOCP equips professionals with the skills and recognition they need to fulfil this critical role and elevate their careers to new heights.”

Eligibility requires three years of project experience—or having an active Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification— and 10 hours of formal PMO-specific training. PMI will offer an on-demand exam prep course fulfilling this training requirement and preparing candidates for the exam. The certification process will be available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The Project Management Offices:  Practice Guide is now available for free as a PDF in English for PMI members, with translations and printed editions for purchase to follow.

Current PMO-CP holders will be offered a seamless, cost-free transition to the PMI-PMOCP until 3 February 2026. This transition involves a brief application outlining experience and agreement to adhere to the PMI Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program, which includes earning 30 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every three years and paying the renewal fee. Those opting to retain their PMO-CP certification will incur no maintenance or renewal fees.
