Quiz On Korea 2023 India Preliminary Round

India regional preliminary round to select participants for the Quiz on Korea final round co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KBS

Hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Centre India and Jawaharlal Nehru University held the 2023 Quiz on Korea-India Preliminary Round at 10:30 p.m. on June 10th at the Jawaharlal Nehru University Convention Centre.

Quiz on Korea is a global quiz program co-produced by KBS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to raise interest in Korea and promote Korea’s international presence worldwide.

Each year, more than 20 countries hold regional rounds, and one final winner of each country will participate in the “Quiz on Korea” finals held in September in Korea.

Held for the first time in India, the Korean ambassador Jang Jae-Bok and Prof Satish Chandra Garkoti, Rector-I Jawaharlal Nehru university gave speeches to encourage the participants to win, and the ambassador and the madam excellence gave the 1st and 2nd questions to participants. Prof. Shoba Sivasankaran, dean school of language literature and culture studies, Neerja Samajdar, chairperson centre of Korean Studies, Hwang Il-Yong, director of Korean Culture Centre of India were present to the event.

India is currently showing its love for Korea with a fierce competition rate of 1:110. Even though participants were required to have a considerable level of Korean language skill in order to understand and answer the questions in Korean, more than 110 Indians participated in the event. In addition to the quiz competition, participants also showed off their talents such as K-pop dance and singing Korean songs, and the Korean Cultural Centre’s performance team “Haeohreum” and Taekwondo demonstration team in India introduced Korean traditional culture to repay the participants’ love for Korea. The winners are Neha Cariappa for the first place who will go to Korea for the final round, Areeza Saifi for the second place, Mahaveer Prasad Kumawat for 3rd place.

To support Korean language learners, India’s top national university, Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Korea Studies faculty and students supported the event and Orion India Corporation provided Korean snacks to the participants.

Ambassador Jang Jae-Bok of the Embassy of India, who hosted the event, said, “I am confident that events such as this Quiz Contest and other upcoming events in celebration of the diplomatic anniversary will further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between our two peoples. This, in turn, will pave the way for an even brighter future of Korea-India relations..”
