Hyderabad, Telangana, July 22, 2024: Yulu, India’s largest shared electric vehicle (EV) mobility technology firm, today launched its service in Hyderabad, Telangana. The rollout will see Yulu introducing its purpose-built shared EVs on city roads for the first time. Yulu’s service was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Jayesh Ranjan (IAS) Special Chief Secretary, Information Technology and Industries & Commerce, Government of Telangana. The launch event also featured a vibrant EV rally by city-based delivery partners working for Swiggy, Blinkit, Zepto and other brands.

Yulu’s entry into the City of Pearls marks a milestone for its mission to revolutionise clean and shared mobility in urban India. To start with, Yulu will deploy its purpose-built DeX EVs in the Cyberabad Commissionerate area — a knowledge and technology hub comparable to the nation’s finest industrial centres. One of India’s most loved shared EV brands, Yulu has made mobility affordable, accessible and greener in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Indore, Kochi and Tirunelveli. Having powered 110+ million green deliveries to date, Yulu has gained immense popularity due to its excellent product-market fit for e-commerce and quick-commerce applications, its cutting-edge technology, and its industry-first flexible pricing model that enables 30-40% more savings for delivery partners.

In Hyderabad, Yulu will seek to replicate the success it has achieved in other markets. As a cosmopolitan city with rising income levels and technology-savvy residents, Hyderabad is known for its excellent infrastructure, corporate parks and tech hubs like HITEC City, as well as its high liveability factor. Rising consumption and the emergence of new-age industries in the city have catalysed its quick-commerce and food delivery industries. All these factors make it an ideal market for Yulu’s green and app-based hyperlocal delivery solutions.
Yulu’s service is also aligned with the State Government’s aim to provide comprehensive intra-city mobility infrastructure and sustainably develop its metropolitan area under the upcoming Hyderabad Master Plan. Mr Jayesh Ranjan (IAS) says, “The Government of Telangana is dedicated to advancing the electric vehicle sector. Hyderabad, with its young and tech-savvy population, serves as an ideal environment for the adoption of innovative technologies and business models in the electric mobility space. We are pleased to welcome pioneering mobility-as-a-service companies like Yulu to the city’s shared mobility landscape.”

“Yulu is delighted to launch its service in Hyderabad, an economic and business powerhouse whose citizens share a love for technology-led solutions for everyday life,” says Amit Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Yulu. He adds, “As Hyderabad emerges as a beacon of sustainable urban development, Yulu will champion affordable and zero-emission solutions for last-mile mobility that improve residents’ quality of life and empower delivery workers, brands and consumers. By unlocking EVs for last-mile delivery and creating several new gig work jobs in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, Yulu looks forward to partnering with the State to create a vibrant and inclusive economy.”

For delivery riders, Yulu’s simplified and smart technology, compact and traffic-friendly form factor and affordable and flexible rental packs make it the ideal mobility partner that allows them to deliver more and earn more. Riders also get several additional benefits, such as zero maintenance and minimal downtime, thanks to assured battery availability and one-minute swaps at the battery swap stations of Yuma Energy, an associate of Yulu that provides Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS). Yulu’s inclusive service also eliminates entry barriers for aspiring gig workers — including women — who are constrained by the lack of a driver’s licence or vehicle, high vehicle down-payments, and fuel costs.
Besides riders and brands, Yulu’s service will support State and City-level administrators in their goal to create jobs and promote sustainable urbanisation. This underscores Yulu’s role as a catalyst for positive change, leading the way towards a greener and prosperous future for Hyderabad and beyond.
