The symptoms are often confused with gas or acidity and ignored for too long. Early diagnosis through an ultrasound can help prevent gallbladder infections
Pune:- Mild to severe stomach pain, especially after meals, is often dismissed as acidity or indigestion. However, it could be a sign of gallstones. With a dramatic rise in gallbladder-related complaints in people aged 40-50, experts are urging early evaluation and treatment to avoid complications.
Gallstones are solid particles that form in the gallbladder, usually due to an imbalance in substances like cholesterol and bile salts. They can vary in size and number, and many people remain unaware until the stones cause pain or infection. Common symptoms include sharp pain in the upper right abdomen, nausea, vomiting, bloating, or discomfort after eating fatty food.
Dr Nitin Pote, general surgeon at Apollo Spectra Pune Said, “Adults aged 40-50 are presenting with gallstones. The causes can be attributed to high-fat diets, obesity, rapid weight loss, and sedentary lifestyles. Women and people over 40 are particularly prone to suffering from gallstones. The symptoms are often confused with gas or acidity and ignored for too long. Early diagnosis through an ultrasound can help prevent gallbladder infections, inflammation, and even blockages in the bile duct. So, a minimally invasive laparoscopic gallbladder removal procedure can be performed to improve the quality of life of the patient. This procedure allows faster recovery, smaller scars, and reduced hospital stay.”
Dr Pote added, “To prevent gallstones, maintain a healthy diet low in saturated fats, stay physically active, avoid skipping meals or rapid weight loss plans, and get routine checkups if you have digestive discomfort. So, be attentive when it comes to your health and seek timely treatment.”
Dr Hemant Patel, General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Zynova Shalby Hospital Mumbai Said, ‘‘We’re observing a noticeable rise in gallbladder stone cases among adults in their 45-50s. The plausible factors are sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and metabolic conditions. The concerning signs can be nausea and vomiting and abdominal pain that needs immediate attention. Early diagnosis with the help of an ultrasound and timely treatment can prevent serious complications like infection, pancreatitis, or gallbladder rupture, which can otherwise require emergency surgery. Patients should seek timely help without neglecting their condition.’’
