The new-age Indian luggage startups redefining travel

For years, luggage in India was a pure utility purchase. You bought something sturdy, affordable, and that was it. But over the last few years, a new set of direct-to-consumer brands has started to change that narrative. These startups are building for a very different traveller. Younger, more frequent, more design-conscious, and far more particular about what they carry. From better materials and cleaner aesthetics to faster delivery and omnichannel retail, this category is quietly going through a shift.

Here’s a look at five Indian luggage startups that are shaping this change.

1. Escape Plan

Founded in 2025 by Abhinav Pathak and Abhinav Zutshi, Escape Plan is one of the newest entrants in the category but also among the fastest scaling. The Bengaluru-based brand is positioning itself as a full-stack travel platform, not just a luggage company. It offers luggage, accessories, and mobility solutions across online marketplaces, D2C channels, and offline retail.

What sets Escape Plan apart is its focus on speed and accessibility. The company is experimenting with quick delivery models and building an omnichannel presence across metros and Tier II cities. It has already crossed a ₹300 crore annualised run rate and is scaling aggressively with plans to expand its retail footprint across India.

2. Mokobara

Founded in 2020 by Sangeet Agrawal and Navin Parwal, Mokobara is one of the most recognisable new-age luggage brands in India. Built as a design-first, premium D2C brand, Mokobara came from a simple insight that Indian travellers had very limited choices between bulky legacy brands and low-quality options.

The brand focuses heavily on minimal design, utility, and build quality, targeting urban consumers who want their luggage to reflect their lifestyle. Over time, Mokobara has expanded into backpacks and travel accessories, building a strong premium positioning in the market.

3. Nasher Miles

Founded in 2017, Nasher Miles is slightly earlier than the rest but still very much part of the new-age D2C wave. The Mumbai-based brand has built its identity around bold design and affordability, offering luggage in multiple colours and styles inspired by travel destinations.

Nasher Miles operates as a digital-first brand with strong omnichannel expansion, and has rapidly scaled distribution across e-commerce platforms and offline retail. It has also attracted investor interest and gained visibility through platforms like Shark Tank India.

4. Urban Jungle

Urban Jungle is a newer, emerging player targeting young, urban consumers through a digital-first approach. The brand focuses on functional, everyday travel gear including backpacks and luggage, with an emphasis on clean aesthetics and usability. It has built early traction largely through online channels and creator-led marketing.

Urban Jungle represents a broader trend in the category where brands are being built directly on social media and D2C platforms, targeting first-time buyers and younger travellers.

5. Assembly

Assembly is another rising name in the space, often positioned around utility-first design and functionality. Unlike brands that lean heavily on aesthetics, Assembly focuses on structured compartments, use-case driven design, and practical travel solutions, especially for frequent travellers.

It reflects a shift within the category where differentiation is not just about looks, but also about how intelligently luggage is designed for real travel needs.
