Toned Milk for Healthy Heart

You may be aware of the significant benefits of including the recommended portions of milk in your diet every day. However, if you feel that the fat content in full cream milk may not be suitable for your specific health needs, you can always go for toned or double toned milk. Toned milk and milk products are low in calories and fat, which makes them suitable for your health needs, especially heart health.

Scientific evidence

The fact that toned milk can lower risks of heart related ailments was illustrated in a research study. The findings of this study were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study involved 5,000 people, in the age group of 45 to 84. These people were regularly monitored and tested for kidney function that is linked to heart disease.

What the researchers discovered

The testing method used was the Albumin to Creatinine Ratio (ACR), which when increases beyond a certain point, is indicative of poor kidney function and an enhanced risk of cardiovascular diseases. Researchers found that individuals who took a minimum of one serving of toned milk or milk products every day had a 37% reduced risk of poor kidney function, associated with heart diseases. In the study, it was noticed that people who consumed more toned milk and milk products had lower ACR, as compared to people who consumed relatively less quantities. Lower ACR means that a person’s kidneys are functioning normally and there is less risk of associated cardiovascular problems.

The study also indicated that nutrients found in toned milk such as Vitamin D, Calcium, Magnesium, and Milk Protein may contribute towards maintaining a healthy heart. When toned milk was taken as part of a healthy diet including whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, the ACR levels dropped 20% more, which indicated even a healthier kidney function and linked heart health.

Just one glass of toned milk a day can reduce risks of stroke and heart disease, so make sure you have one every day.
