TOPMOST PRIORITY TO RESTORE ROAD CONNECTIVITY TO NORTH SIKKIM: CM PS TAMANG

New Delhi, October 9: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang visited the disaster affected areas around Naga and Sankalan under Lachen-Mangan and Dzongu Constituency of North Sikkim on Friday.

In Naga, he inspected the affected areas and inspected damaged infrastructures. He then interacted with the public assuring them aid and support from the government. He further urged everyone to co-operate and work unitedly to overcome the crisis.

He also coordinated a meeting with Zilla and ward members of Toong Naga GPU alongside representatives of GREF, BRO and officials of concerned departments.

During the meeting, immediate establishment of a route for transportation was set forth. He urged the public to co-operate and further stressed on the need for a joint survey immediately. He also spoke on the matter of relocating the people of 17 houses of Toong ward and 15 houses of Rel ward that are in need of prompt relocation to a stable area. The process of relocating will begin within a month through active consultation with the local people. He also mentioned the need for a technical team to be formed to completely assess the issue of communication.

Later, he inspected the Sankalan bridge (Dzongu) that has been completely washed off. A 55m long Bailey bridge for vehicular movement is also being installed on the Sankalan river.

Meanwhile, a zip line is also been installed with the help of locals for the quick transportation of groceries and other basic amenities towards Dzongu which is completely cut off at present.

The Chief Minister also visited the relief camp located at ITI Chadey where 32 families of the affected areas have been sheltered. He also handed over financial aid for emergency purposes to the family members.

On his way back to the capital, the Chief Minister interacted with the local volunteers and army personnel at Rangang bridge. He took stock of the relief materials which are being sent across to Dzongu via an alternative bridge below Rangang. The Chief Minister interacted with the families of those who have gone missing in the disaster.

Appreciating the efforts of the volunteers and army personnel, he urged them to continue with their noble service at this crucial hour.
