India-based humanitarian organization True Hope Foundation has launched a nationwide relief initiative titled 100K HopeShield India, aimed at building one lakh climate-resilient emergency shelters for vulnerable families affected by fires, floods, heatwaves, and other disasters across the country.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over extreme weather events and urban displacement in India, where economically weaker communities often face the highest risks during natural calamities. Through the new campaign, the foundation plans to establish rapid-response shelter systems designed to provide immediate safety, protection, and temporary housing support during emergencies.
The announcement follows the organization’s recent intervention in Vikas Nagar, Lucknow, where massive fires displaced hundreds of residents. In response, volunteers from the foundation reportedly installed nearly 1,000 heat-resistant temporary shelters to support affected families struggling in temperatures exceeding 40°C.
According to the organization, the shelters are intended not only as emergency structures but also as a means to restore dignity and stability for disaster survivors, including migrant workers, daily wage earners, women-led households, children, and senior citizens.
Under the 100K HopeShield India mission, the foundation plans to expand these relief operations into flood-prone rural regions, fire-vulnerable urban settlements, and areas frequently impacted by prolonged heatwaves. The campaign reflects a broader shift toward climate-focused humanitarian planning that combines emergency aid with long-term resilience measures.
Alongside disaster relief efforts, the foundation has also continued its medical assistance programs. Over the past year, the NGO stated that it has supported more than 500 healthcare campaigns involving children requiring urgent heart and neurological treatments, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, elderly individuals dependent on long-term care, and accident victims in need of emergency medical support.
Humanitarian experts believe initiatives such as 100K HopeShield India represent an emerging community-driven relief model that integrates climate adaptation, emergency shelter infrastructure, and social protection to support vulnerable populations more effectively during crises.
