New Delhi: The National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language organized the launch and discussion of the book “Veer Savarkar: The Man Who Could Have Prevented Partition,” titled “Veer Savarkar aur Takseem-e-Hind ka Alamiya,” an Urdu translation of the book “Veer Savarkar: The Man Who Could Have Prevented Partition,” at the Prime Minister’s Museum, Teen Murti Marg, New Delhi today. Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, said that Veer Savarkar was a great freedom fighter who actively participated in this country’s freedom struggle and endured long periods of imprisonment and the hardships of imprisonment. Today, we are breathing in a free India because of the sacrifices of such great personalities. He said that Veer Savarkar was also deeply sensitive to national unity and integrity and was therefore a strong opponent of the partition of India. Had his vision and planning been implemented, the country could have been saved from disintegration. He said that after independence, attempts were made to defame Veer Savarkar for a specific purpose, and his ideas were distorted, which was extremely regrettable. We are pleased that serious efforts have begun across the country to understand Veer Savarkar’s thoughts. The book by Mr. Uday Mahurkar and Mr. Chirayu Pandit, whose Urdu translation was released today, is a golden link in this chain. He said that the publication of this book in Urdu will make it accessible to our Muslim brothers and sisters and Urdu speakers, and its study will dispel many misconceptions. I congratulate the translators of this book, Professor Mazhar Asif and Dr. Masood Alam, and especially congratulate the National Urdu Council and its energetic Director, Dr. Shams Iqbal, for the publication of this translation, who are striving to spread Urdu throughout the country and connect the new generation with modern technical education. Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. Shams Iqbal, Director of the Council, welcomed all the distinguished guests and stated that the National Urdu Council, a national-level organization operating under the Ministry of Education, is implementing various programs to promote the Urdu language throughout the country. He added that the Council has published over two thousand books on various literary, social, medical, and scientific topics, including translations of many important works. Under this program, “Veer Savarkar and Taqseem-e-Hind Ka Alamiya” was also published, a significant contribution to Urdu literature. Dr. Shams Iqbal stated that this is a historic occasion not only for the Council but for the entire Urdu world, as until now there was a severe lack of an authentic, unbiased, fact-based book on Veer Savarkar in the Urdu language, which the National Urdu Council has attempted to address. I hope and appeal to the Urdu world to read this book and become aware of the unbiased historical narrative and research-based dimensions of independent India.

Expressing his views, the special guest and author of the book, Mr. Uday Mahurkar, said that for the first time in the history of independent India, this book presents truthful and unbiased information about Veer Savarkar and, in light of historical facts, attempts to dispel all the misconceptions spread by a specific political ideology. He stated that by following Veer Savarkar’s ideas about national unity, the country’s prosperity, and development, we can become a world leader and also face internal and external challenges. He stated that this book examines Savarkar’s Hindutva ideology in the light of strong arguments, presents his true views regarding Muslims, and explains that Savarkar respected all revolutionaries and freedom fighters who participated in the national struggle and considered the participation of all social classes, including Muslims, to be extremely important in the country’s journey towards all-round development.

Chief Guest, Professor Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia and translator of the book, expressed his views, saying that this book provides a detailed review of Veer Savarkar’s personality and his vision of national development and unity, and is a comprehensive and interesting book in terms of its content. He said that the special feature of this book is that it examines all the misconceptions about Veer Savarkar in the light of arguments and evidence, which every Indian should be aware of.

The book’s co-author, Mr. Chirayu Pandit, and co-translator, Dr. Masood Alam, also shared their thoughts, and all guests were welcomed with shawls, mementos, and books. The program was moderated by Advocate Mr. Abhay Shah. A large number of intellectuals, university faculty, media personnel, researchers, and students attended the event.
