On the occasion of HH the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday on 6 July 2025, Westland Books is honoured to announce the acquisition of his biography written by senior journalist and writer Dr Arvind Yadav. This biography has the blessings of the Dalai Lama.
The book titled, Eternal Light: The Life and Times of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, this is going to be one of the most comprehensive biographies of HH the 14th Dalai Lama. The book is meticulously researched, and traces every important chapter of his extraordinary life: from his early years in Amdo to his recognition as the 14th Dalai Lama, from the Chinese invasion of Tibet and his subsequent exile to his global journey as a spiritual leader and a symbol of non-violent resistance. It is a timely book that faithfully documents the Tibetan people’s enduring struggle to preserve their culture, history and religion in exile under his guidance.
Speaking about the book, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama said, ‘I am grateful for Dr Arvind Yadav’s efforts in making this biography available. This book will allow more readers to gain insight into Tibetan history. It also sheds light on the ongoing challenges our people face, and more importantly, it carries the message I have always sought to spread – one of love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, kindness, and the oneness of humanity. It is my hope that Eternal Light will serve as an inspiration to all who seek to cultivate a more compassionate and peaceful world.’
Commenting on the acquisition, Dr Arvind Yadav said, ‘His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s life continues to inspire millions of people across the world. As he enters his 90th year, I feel a fresh biography is required, one that not only traces his extraordinary journey but also reflects the timeless relevance of his teachings. This is more than just a life story; it is a tribute to the spirit of Tibet and the enduring strength of its people. I am truly delighted to be publishing Eternal Light with Westland Books, known for showcasing some of the most transformative voices of our time.’
Minakshi Thakur, publisher and editor at Westland Books said, ‘This biography marks a turning point. On 6 July, his 90th birthday, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will be laying out a plan of succession. He has announced that the institution will continue. Earlier he had said that the next Dalai Lama could also be a woman and they could be located anywhere, in Tibet or outside. Dr Yadav’s biography is the result of years of research. He sets the record straight on the variances in the perception of the history of Tibet and by extension the Dalai Lama’s journey as a global ambassador of peace. Westland Books is looking forward to publishing Eternal Light by December 2025.
