Which Jobs Will Be Safe From AI In Next 10 Years?

While AI will take over many jobs, the ones that require emotional intelligence, physical skills, creativity and in-person interactions will be safe

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has outsmarted humans in many areas such as medical diagnosis, coding, critical analysis, research, games involving intelligence, etc. Moreover, the powers of AI are increasing at an astonishing rate with every passing day. Some even fear that AI will completely take over the entire world.

With the growing power of AI, many professionals fear losing their jobs. However, some jobs may still be safe from AI, at least till the next decade. If you are looking at AI-safe jobs, here are some options you can consider.

Healthcare – While AI can make better diagnosis, other healthcare jobs like that of surgeons, nurses, therapists and palliative care specialists will remain safe. These jobs require human interactions and care, which cannot be replaced with AI. Such jobs also require adjusting the treatment to suit individual needs and preferences. The emotional and social components of such jobs also cannot be replicated by an AI platform. Until major gains are made in combining AI with robotics, healthcare jobs will remain largely safe in the next decade and beyond.

Education and training – It is true that AI can create comprehensive tutorials within minutes and answer all queries of students. However, the personal touch that a teacher can provide in a classroom environment is hard to replace. A teacher can identify individual learning needs and accordingly address the queries of students. Same is true for various professional trainers in various fields. Gems of knowledge based on personal experience will be difficult to create by AI platforms.

Handyman skills – These include highly skilled manual tasks that cannot be replaced by AI. It is possible that AI can identify a problem and also tell you how to fix it. But application will require special skills and tools, along with good experience on the job. We are talking about jobs of plumbers, electricians, mechanics, carpenters, construction workers, HVAC technicians, etc.

Creative and artistic professionals – It is true that AI can write informative blogs within seconds. Or create exciting images and videos too. However, the emotional feel is often missing in such creations. AI-based creative works may also lack the insights gained from personal experiences and  subtle cultural nuances. Jobs that involve a high level of creativity and artistry will remain safe from AI over the next decade.

Leadership roles – This includes jobs like CEOs, diplomats, policy advisors, senior managers, HR specialists, etc. While AI can undertake complex calculations and analytics, it may not be able to get a 360° view of the entire organization. Moreover, decisions taken by such individuals also involve interpersonal influence and ethical judgment. Balancing such variables could be a challenge for AI platforms.

As is evident, there are many jobs that will remain safe from AI in the next 10 years and beyond. Jobs that require physical interactions will also remain safe from AI. These include jobs like barbers, fitness trainers, chefs, childcare workers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, farming jobs, religious leaders, community organizers. etc. If you want to play it safe, you can consider any of the jobs described above.
