TWO SEASONS. TWO TITLES. THE RISE OF T20 MUMBAI LEAGUE’S TEAM TO BEAT

When we first envisioned the MSC Maratha Royals, we didn’t just set out to build a cricket franchise; we set out to build a family. Standing on the hallowed turf of the Wankhede Stadium this past Saturday, looking out at a sea of tens of thousands of roaring fans, that sense of family felt more profound than ever. Lifting our second consecutive T20 Mumbai League trophy wasn’t just a validation of our strategy, but also a deeply emotional milestone that underscored what happens when you pair raw Mumbai grit with an unbreakable team spirit.

Our journey over these last two seasons has been nothing short of a whirlwind. Returning to the tournament as defending champions, we were acutely aware that the target on our backs would be larger and the pressure exponentially heavier. The romanticism of being the underdogs was gone; now, we were the hunted. We launched our campaign under the banner of ‘The Royal Roar,’ promising our fans a brand of fearless, unapologetic cricket. But fearless cricket is easy to talk about in the comfort of a pre-season team meeting; it is incredibly difficult to execute when the lights are blinding, the crowd is deafening, and your top order is reeling at a precarious 29/2 in a high-stakes final.

What makes this second title so heartwarming for us as owners isn’t the cold arithmetic of the final scoreboard, but the raw human stories that have unfolded behind it. Every championship run has its moments of crisis, and ours arrived with a cruel suddenness. When our captain and talisman, Siddhesh Lad, was forced to leave the field with a painful arm injury, a heavy, anxious silence fell over our dugout.

Yet, in that precise moment of vulnerability, the true character of the Maratha Royals emerged. Tushar Deshpande stepped up seamlessly into the leadership void, exuding a calm confidence that steadied a frantic ship. He didn’t just play captain; he led from the front, delivering a spectacular, hostile, and title-winning spell that rightfully earned him the tournament’s coveted Purple Cap.

On the batting front, when we needed a hero to anchor the storm, Chinmay Sutar answered the call. His gritty, selfless half-century was a masterclass in situational awareness, building the exact foundation we required to give our bowlers a total they could actively defend.

From day one, our heartbeat has been local talent development. Mumbai cricket has a legendary bench strength, born from local clubs and fueled by relentless dreams. Seeing young boys come from local grounds and fearlessly perform under the intense pressure of a packed Wankhede is the greatest reward we could ask for. As owners, our love for the game stretches far beyond the boundaries of the stadium. We have invested our hearts into spotting raw talent, and watching these athletes evolve into back-to-back champions is a privilege that leaves us incredibly humbled.

To become the first franchise in the history of the T20 Mumbai League to successfully defend the title is a historic achievement. As we celebrate this milestone, our gratitude goes straight to our players, our coaching staff led by Amit Dani, and every single fan who wore our colors and roared with us.

This victory belongs to the spirit of Mumbai; unyielding, passionate, and forever moving forward. Last season, critics said it was a dream run. This season, our boys proved that the Maratha Royals are an empire built to last. The roar has just begun.
