With the world moving towards an all-electric ecosystem, a number of new electric cars have been launched. There are also the ones that are currently under development and expected to be launched soon. Even though costlier, electric cars offer numerous advantages over their fossil-fuel counterparts. One major advantage is faster acceleration, which makes riding these EVs a lot more exciting. So, which electric car has the fastest acceleration? To answer that question, here’s a look at some of the fastest electric cars in the world.
Faraday Future FF91 – Developed by US-based startup, Faraday Future FF91 is powered by three electric motors. Together, these produce 1035 bhp of max power. FF91 can reach 0-60 mph in around 2.2 seconds. It is expected to be priced at around $121,000.
Pininfarina Battista – With four motors delivering combined power of 1877 bhp, Pininfarina Battista can reach 0-60 mph in just around 2 seconds. This car utilizes the same powertrain as that of Rimac C_Two. However, several of other key components are different. Pininfarina Battista is also a costly electric car, priced at around $2.6 million.
Tesla Roadster / Model S Plaid – These two are pretty close in terms of their acceleration. Roadster is the faster one, achieving 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Plaid does that in 1.99 seconds. It is to note that Tesla Roadster has been delayed and it’s not certain when it will be available. In comparison, Model S Plaid is available for purchase. Tesla Roadster has a 200-kWh battery and offers a whopping 620-mile range. Its top speed is more than 250 mph. It is expected to be priced at around $255,000.
Rimac C_Two – Croatian car manufacturer Rimac had unveiled C_Two electric car in 2018. It is the second electric car to be launched by the company. The electric motor used with the car churns out 1914 bhp of max power. It can reach 0-60 mph in 1.85 seconds. Drawing power from a 120-kWh battery pack, the car can travel more than 400 miles on a full charge. Rimac C_Two will cost you $2.6 million.
Aspark Owl – Developed by a Japan based startup, Aspark Owl currently holds the title of world’s fastest electric car. It utilizes four motors, which work together to produce a staggering 1985 bhp of max power. It can achieve 0-60 mph in just 1.72 seconds. According to its developers, there could be scope to further improve acceleration of the car. Aspark Owl top speed is claimed at 249 mph whereas range is 280 miles. However, this electric car is not for everyone, as it will cost more than $3.3 million. Only 50 units of this car will be manufactured.
EV technology is evolving at a fast pace. While the likes of Tesla are currently in a leading position, other tech companies and carmakers are also working on ambitious projects. All aspects of EVs such as their range, top speed, acceleration and charging time are expected to improve as newer models are launched. Price of electric cars is also expected to come down, making them accessible to a wider customer base.
