Vijay Kumar Dubey is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Kushi Nagar in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Kushi Nagar constituency came into existence in 2008, as part of the delimitation exercise conducted by the Delimitation Commission of India.
Vijay Kumar Dubey is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Earlier, he had also joined Indian National Congress (INC) for a couple of years. With Congress, Dubey was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Khadda seat that comes under Kushi Nagar Lok Sabha constituency. Dubey again joined BJP a few years later and contested from Kushi Nagar Lok Sabha seat.
In the 2019 general elections, Vijay Kumar Dubey defeated his nearest rival Nathuni Prasad Kushwaha of Samajwadi Party (SP) by a margin of more than 3.37 lakh votes. As may be recalled, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh were primarily a fight between BJP and ‘Mahagathbandhan’. All those opposed to BJP had joined hands to fight the elections together and their alliance was named as ‘mahagathbandhan’. However, the mahagathbandhan formula did not work and BJP emerged victorious in UP.
Early Life and Education
Vijay Kumar Dubey was born on June 20, 1960 to Shri Hari Prasad. He was born in Kushi Nagar and has completed education up to 12th standard. He received education at Maharana Pratap Intermediate College, Gorakhpur.
Political Career
Vijay Kumar Dubey started his political career with Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth organization founded by Yogi Adityanath. Dubey is considered close to Yogi Adityanath. He had contested 2009 Lok Sabha election from Kushi Nagar, but at that time he came third. In the following years, his relations with BJP deteriorated. This prompted him to join INC. In 2012, he contested from Khadda assembly constituency on INC ticket and won the election. However, he was later expelled from Congress due to alleged anti-party activities. Dubey again joined BJP after that and won the 2019 general election from Kushi Nagar.
