B P Saroj is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Machhlishahr in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In the 2019 general elections, Saroj defeated his nearest rival Tribhuvan Ram of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). It was one of the most closely contested elections in 2019. Saroj won by just 181 votes, which was the lowest marginwin in 2019 general elections. The tough fight was because of the alliance between BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP), who had fought the elections together. The close fight had also created a lot of controversy and final results were declared after much deliberation from both parties.
It may be recalled that B P Saroj was earlier with BSP. He had fought the 2014 general electionsfrom BSP ticket. However, at that time, he was defeated by Ram Chandra Nishad (BJP). Saroj switched to BJP and contested the 2019 general elections from the party’s ticket. Sitting BJP MP Ram Chandra Nishad was denied the ticket in 2019, as the party was focusing on bringing new faces in the elections.With Saroj contesting from Machhlishahr, BJP’s vote share in the constituencyimproved by 3.63% in 2019.
Early Life and Education
B P Saroj was born on January 01, 1961 to Panchamdas Saroj. He completed his graduation from C.M.P Degree College in Allahabad. His profession includes business and agriculture. His wife Indrawati is a housewife and also looks after agricultural works.
Political Career
One of Saroj’s positive aspects is that he does not have any criminal cases registered against him.He is among the MPs who have 100% attendance in the parliament. He has continuously made efforts for the development of his constituency. He has submitted various proposals in the parliament such as establishment of trauma center in Machhlishahr, demand for special package for Machhlishahr, and upgrade of Machhlishahr railway station and increase in the number of train stoppages.

Personal Pursuits
B P Saroj likes to read and keep updated with current affairs. He also spends time for social work. Recently, Saroj announced that he will be donating Rs 1 crore from his fund towards the fight against coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, he had contributed Rs 10 lakh for the cause. His two months’ salary has also been donated to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
