History:

Balaji Telefilms had humble beginnings in the 90s, a time when television was taking center stage in every home. It started as a private limited company in 1994 and later got listed as a public company in 2000. Starting with just a single project named Mano Ya Na Mano, the company has produced more than 17,000 hours of content till date. Many of its content have shattered TRP/GRP records, some of which include Kyu Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bhau Thi, Bade Achhe Lagte Hai, Pavitra Rishta, Naagin and many more. Over the years, the company has ventured into other business streams as well. It owns Balaji Motion Pictures, which focuses on producing and marketing cinematic content. AltBalaji is also a subsidiary of Balaji telefilms, which leads the way in digital entertainment.

Funding:

Balaji Telefilms has receivedinvestments from various foreign portfolio investors, financial institutions and corporate bodies. Investors include Atyant Capital, India Capital, GHI HSP, GHI JBD, GHI LTP, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, Star Group, and Aadi Financial Advisors.

Acquisitions:

Balaji Telefilms acquired Marinating Films Private Limited in 2014. The acquisition helped the company to boost its revenue through TV-centric intellectual property rights.

Balaji Telefilms competes with other content production houses such as Yash Raj Films, Rajshri Productions, UTV Motion Pictures, Red Chillies Entertainment, Dharma Productions, Eros International, Vinod Chopra Films, Zee Entertainment, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Phantom Films, Vishesh Films, T-Series, etc.

About the Founders:

Balaji Telefilms was founded by Jeetendra Kapoor, who currently serves as the chairman. Jeetendra has significantexperience in the entertainment industry, having worked in more than 200 films in his 45-year film career. The operations of the company are ably managed by the entire family, which includes Shobha Kapoor, Managing Director; Ekta Kapoor, Joint Managing Director and Tusshar Kapoor, Director.The CEO of Balaji Telefilms is Mr. Sunil Lulla, who has more than 30 years of experience in the media, entertainment and broadcast industry.
