Mumbai’s cricketing story is unlike any other. It is not confined to stadiums or academies. It lives across maidans, school grounds, and neighbourhood pitches that have produced generations of cricketers. The T20 Mumbai League stands strong today because it brings together the credibility of the game with a deeply rooted and passionate local audience.
The T20 Mumbai League offers a unique platform that bridges the gap between club cricket and higher levels of the game. As a franchise, we see our role not just in competing within this structure, but in strengthening it. For emerging players, access to the right environment – exposure, mentorship, and competitive opportunity, can be transformative. By bringing together experienced players and young talent within the same dressing room, we aim to accelerate that journey in ways traditional pathways often cannot. The Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals is built on this philosophy: that success is measured by the number of players who move forward because of the platform provided to them.
For us, the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals was never envisioned as a top-down franchise. The effort has been to build from within the ecosystem, by understanding where the game is played, how talent emerges, and what the city emotionally connects with. This has meant engaging with cricket at its most foundational level. Whether through grassroots initiatives, scouting across districts, or simply being present in the spaces where cricket is lived daily, the focus has been on embedding the franchise into the fabric of Mumbai cricket.
In a format as dynamic as T20 cricket, there is often a temptation to chase quick fixes. We have consciously resisted that. When the MSC Maratha Royals lifted the T20 Mumbai League trophy last season, it marked an important moment in our journey. More than the win itself, it reinforced our belief in a structured, well-planned approach to building a competitive team. As defending champions, the focus is on raising our own standards. The focus this season as well is to build on the continuity: retaining core players, defining roles clearly, and creating an environment where the players understand not just what is expected of them, but how they contribute to the larger ecosystem. This continuity is what allows the team to evolve rather than reset every season.
With Siddhesh Lad back as the captain this season, after leading the team to victory in 2025, the MSC Maratha Royals benefit from continuity, experience, and a deep understanding of the group’s dynamics. His leadership brings stability to the setup, along with the clarity and composure that define the team on the field. That sense of continuity is further reflected in our retained core with Tushar Deshpande, and Rohan Raje, who remain central to the MSC Maratha Royals setup, bringing both experience and consistency to the group. At the same time, our most significant investment at the auction came in Chinmay Sutar, underlining our intent to strengthen key areas with impact-driven talent and add greater depth to the squad.
Under Head Coach Amit Dani, preparation remains a central pillar of how the MSC Maratha Royals team operates. Training sessions are designed to closely mirror match situations, enabling players to build confidence, sharpen decision-making, and perform under pressure.
At a broader level, we are building the MSC Maratha Royals with a long-term perspective. Every decision is made with the intent of creating a team structure that can sustain success and continue to evolve with each season. For us, the MSC Maratha Royals is not just a team competing in a league. They are a platform for talent, a contributor to Mumbai’s cricket ecosystem, and a reflection of the city’s sporting culture.
