Compass Group India cuts food wastage from 8% to 3% through AI led kitchen operations

Bengaluru, India, September 03^rd, 2026: Compass Group India,  today released its Sustainability Report 2025, underscoring a broader shift across India’s workplace economy where sustainability is increasingly being measured through operational outcomes rather than corporate intent. From AI led kitchen systems and emissions visibility to workplace nutrition and facilities optimisation, the report reflects how enterprise campuses and GCCs are rethinking productivity, efficiency and employee wellbeing together.

Compass Group India used AI and operational data to make workplace food systems more efficient in 2025. Through SmartQ’s AI led production planning platform, food wastage at deployed sites reduced from 8% to 3%, while also delivering 2 to 3% monthly cost savings. Food waste tracking now covers more than 90% of Compass Group India sites, up from 75% last year, enabling sharper forecasting, better menu planning and lower operational waste across commercial kitchens.

The company also expanded its sustainability infrastructure across mobility, energy and procurement operations. Electric vehicles now account for nearly 45% of food transportation, while rooftop solar capacity increased by 125% during the year. Together, these interventions contributed to a 10.3% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity. At the same time, Compass Group India strengthened ingredient level emissions mapping across more than 89,000 tonnes of food procurement to improve Scope 3 visibility, an area that now accounts for nearly 95% of emissions across institutional food services.

The report also reflects a growing focus on workplace nutrition and employee wellbeing. Protein adequate meal offerings increased from 88% to 98%, while highly and ultra processed ingredients reduced from 9% to 6%. Plant based procurement reached 80% by volume, with whole grain availability across menus increasing to 97%.

Compass Group India also expanded sustainability interventions across facilities, sourcing and workforce operations during 2025. Energy optimisation initiatives across client sites helped save approximately 2.47 lakh units of electricity, while operational interventions across kitchens and facilities strengthened circularity and waste recovery systems. Used cooking oil recovery increased to 36 tonnes, with recovered oil redirected towards biodiesel production, alongside wider adoption of compostable materials and repurpose led cooking practices. Beyond operations, the company continued strengthening inclusive workforce and procurement practices. More than 35% of procurement spend remained directed towards MSMEs, while hiring of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) increased by over 18%. Women now represent 80% of teams at select all women sites across operations.
