Devendra Singh

Devendra Singh is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Akbarpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Prior to being elected as a Lok Sabha MP, Singh had earlier served as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for two terms (1991-1992 and 1996-2002). In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he defeated his nearest rival Anil Shukla Warsi from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by a margin of more than 2,75,000 votes.

Throughout his political career, Devendra Singh has focused on serving the helpless by discussing their problems with administrative authorities and finding the right solutions. He has also been associated with various farmer related projects that involve the supply of good quality seeds, improved pesticides and tools and training for water harvesting.

Early Life and Education

Devendra Singh was born on April 2, 1954 to Shri Darshan Singh and Smt. Kanak Rani. He was born in Madhwapur, located in district Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh. He has done his education till High school. Devendra Singh married Premsheela Singh on April 27, 1971.

  • 1988 – 1992: Block Head, Jhinjhak (Kanpur Dehat)
  • 1991-1992 and 1996-2002: Member, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly (2 Terms)
  • May, 2014: Elected to 16th Lok Sabha
  • 1 Sep. 2014 onwards: Member, Standing Committee on Energy; Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs

Personal Pursuits

Devendra Singh remains committed to a wide variety of social welfare projects such as helping people during natural calamities, providing assistance to physically handicapped people, arranging for marriage of poor girls through mass marriage programs, etc.
