Kantara 2 Release Date

Kantara 2, also called Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 2, is expected to be released later this year or in 2027

With its focus on traditional storytelling, the Kantara franchise has emerged as a major success. The first movie in this series was “Kantara: A Legend”, which was released in 2022. It was made with a budget of just around Rs 16 crore, but global collections were more than Rs 400 crore. The next part was “Kantara: Chapter 1”, which was released in 2025. This was an even bigger success, generating over Rs 852 crore globally. Fans are now eagerly waiting for the next part Kantara 2, which is currently in pre-production or scripting stage.

Kantara 2 release date

As of now, there is no official announcement about the release of Kantara 2. However, it is generally believed that the third part in this franchise will be released later this year. Some sources claim that Kantara 2 could also be released in 2027. Since the Kantara movie franchise is deeply associated with traditional values, the third part could be released around Dussehra/Diwali.

This has been the case with the earlier two parts of Kantara. However, there is currently no official confirmation. Only thing that is known is that the movie makers (Hombale Films) and Director Rishab Shetty had earlier stated that Kantara Chapter 2 is in active development. However, they had not provided any specific release date.

It is expected that most of the crew for Kantara 2 will be the same as earlier. That means Rishab Shetty will continue as the writer and director. Rishab Shetty is also expected to get a lead role in Kantara 2. The producer Vijay Kiragandur (Hombale Films) will be the same as earlier. Just like the earlier movies in Kantara franchise, the Kantara 2 will be in Kannada language.

However, it will be available in various dubbed versions such as Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, etc. Kantara 2 will continue to be based on traditional themes, folklore and mythological action drama. It is expected to have a higher production budget, as compared to the earlier two parts.

Kantara 2 current status

Since Kantara 2 is currently in pre-production stage, shooting for the movie has not yet started. The movie makers are planning something more spectacular in Kantara 2, which means the scripting part could take a bit longer than usual. Sources say that Rishab is currently busy researching and writing the script.

To properly relate to the movie’s traditional themes, sources say that the script is being written in the natural environs of forests in coastal Karnataka. Kantara 2 will continue to focus on ‘Panjurli’ and ‘Guliga’ lore. A teaser or trailer could be released by the end of this year. However, official timelines have not been revealed.
