MPS extends a hand of humanity to earthquake-hit Myanmar, donated 3000 Kg of sugar in a gesture of global solidarity~ This sweet gift of sugar carries a powerful message- In the face of tragedy, humanity knows no borders. ~

In a heartfelt act of compassion and empathy, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, strived ahead to support the victims of the massive earthquake in Myanmar on 28 March 2025. The Modernites contributed 3000 kilograms of sugar, extending a sweet gesture of humanity to those affected by almost 7.9 magnitude tremors, responsible for over 5,000 lives and widespread destruction in Myanmar and even in its neighboring countries.

This humanitarian initiative was made possible under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. Alka Kapur, whose educational philosophy and every endeavor are deeply rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the timeless Indian ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family. Guided by these values, she inspired the school community to come together in a collective act of kindness, with each individual contributing 2 kilograms of sugar — a simple yet profound gesture reflecting empathy, unity, and a deep sense of global responsibility. The donation was formally entrusted to His Excellency Mr. Moe Kyaw Aung, Ambassador of Myanmar, at the Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi.

“In times of grave and colossal suffering, the most memorable lessons are not taught from books but from the heart. Our students and staff contributed to this noble task without any obligation. Their collaborative efforts are the true reflection of their deep sense of empathy and they rendered their duties as global citizens. Though humble, this gesture embodies the soul of MPS which shines on the belief that the world is truly one family,” said Dr. Alka Kapur, Principal of Modern Public School.

The school acknowledges Mr. Gaurav Gupta from GTTCI, Myanmar Airlines, and Stic Travels for their benevolent support in ensuring that this generous donation reaches the people of Myanmar, who are going through a tough time.

This noble initiative resonates deeply with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). By addressing the urgent nutritional needs of earthquake victims, it advances SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by supporting the physical and emotional recovery of the affected communities. Through this cross-border act of solidarity, the school exemplifies SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), extending compassion beyond national boundaries along with the ideals of SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting empathy, justice, and human dignity in times of crisis. Most importantly, it reflects the essence of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) as well, made possible through collaboration with organizations and individuals committed to humanitarian service.

By embracing the timeless Indian ideal of global kinship, Modern Public School continues to instill in its students the values of unity, compassion, and shared humanity, nurturing a generation that sees the world not as divided by borders, but bound by collective responsibility and brotherhood.
