Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary

Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Lok Sabha constituency of Kairana in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Pradeep has been in active politics since more than two decades now. He started his political career with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and later switched sides to Indian National Congress (INC). He is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Uttar Pradesh for three terms, prior to being elected as a Lok Sabha MP.

In the 2019 general elections, Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary defeated his nearest rival Tabassum Hasan of Samajwadi Party (SP) by a margin of more than 90,000 votes. Tabassum lost even when she had the support of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), as part of the Mahagathbandhan. It was thought that Mahagathbandhan would emerge as a potent force against BJP, but election results clearly showed that the idea had failed.

This was an important win for BJP, as the party had lost this seat just a year back in a bye-poll. The Kairana Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of BJP MP Hukum Singh in 2018. At that time, BJP had fielded Hukum Singh’s daughter Mriganka Singh for the bye-poll. However, Mriganka Singh lost that election. In 2019, BJP decided to bring a new face and chose Pradeep for Kairana seat. At that time, Pradeep was already an MLA from Gangoh assembly constituency.
