He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ramapati had early exposure to the world of politics, as he had started out as a youth leader and has been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his youth.
2019 was his first parliamentary election and he was able to score a comfortable win against his rivals. Deoria Lok Sabha constituency comprises legislative assembly constituencies of Tamkuhi Raj, Fazilnagar, Deoria, Pathardeva and Rampur Karkhana. In 2019 general elections in UP, opposition parties such as Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had fought the elections jointly under the banner of ‘mahagathbandhan’ alliance.

His nearest rival Binod Kumar Jaiswal of BSP received 3,30,713 votes, which is 32.57% of the total votes cast. Niyaz Ahmad Khan of Indian National Congress (INC) came third with 51,056 votes. 13,421 votes were cast under NOTA (None Of The Above).
Victory with margin of close to 2.5 lakh votes was an indicator of Ramapati’s popularity in the constituency. Ramapati had worked for several years at grassroots level, something that ensured full support from party workers and other leaders. Deoria Lok Sabha seat was won by BJP in 2014 elections also. At that time, Kalraj Mishra of BJP had won by a margin of more than 2.65 lakh votes.
