PHDCCI organized a Conference on Enhancing Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh on 16th July 2024. This National Conference had participation of senior officials from Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Govt. of India, Industries Department, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, Police Department, Himachal Pradesh, SIDBI, MSME DFO, Solan, Senior Officials of PHDCCI and DRDA.

Smt. Palka Sahni, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest at the Conference. While addressing at the Conference, she mentioned by adhering strictly to these guidelines, pharmaceutical companies can maintain consistency in production processes, minimize risks associated with contamination or errors, and ultimately safeguard public health. She further said the session on GMP emphasized on the critical importance of compliance with international standards. She also said that safety, efficacy, and quality of Pharmaceutical Products are helping industries towards Global Competitiveness. The Pharmaceutical Technology Up-gradation Assistance Scheme (PTUAS) was a focal point of her discussion. She further said the PTUAS scheme plays a crucial role in providing financial support and incentives to pharmaceutical manufacturers to adopt state-of-the-art technologies and improve their manufacturing capabilities.

Dr. Jatinder Singh, Assistant Secretary General, PHDCCI in his welcome address mentioned that GMP guidelines provide a universal benchmark for pharmaceutical manufacturing practices and in order to complete globally our industries will have to implement the GMP in their system. Superintendent of Police (SP) Baddi, Ms. Ilma Afroz, also addressed at the Conference and on the sidelines, attended a crucial meeting with key industry stakeholders in the Baddi, Barotiwala, and Nalagarh (BBN) area today. The meeting aimed to discuss various aspects of industrial development, law and order, and the implementation of sustainable, good manufacturing practices within the BBN region.

The conference also registered the presence of Shri. Ajay Kumar Yadav, (IAS) Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Project Director (DRDA) who promised the industry full support from the department. There were two important technical sessions on “Navigating Legal Aspects: Responsibilities and Compliance” and “Foundations of GMP: Principles and Practices and Challenges: Strategies and Solutions” with all the key stakeholders as panelists. The event concluded with a consensus on the pivotal role of GMP and PTUAS in advancing pharmaceutical quality and innovation. Stakeholders expressed their commitment to upholding the highest standards of manufacturing practices and leveraging government schemes to drive continuous improvement. The program had participation of more than 100 people including pharma MSMEs, start-ups, prospective entrepreneurs and esteemed dignitaries from the industry and was supported by Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt of India and Himachal Drug Manufacturers Association as an Association Partner.
