~Tata Steel showcases its sustainable slag aggregates to the SER delegation~

Bengaluru, February 7, 2024: Tata Steel is collaborating with South Eastern Railway (SER) division to develop sustainable rail infrastructure by utilizing its slag-based aggregates. In a one-of-a-kind initiative, Tata Aggreto & Tata Nirman will be used extensively in construction of the blanketing layer in railway track. Tata Steel and SER will jointly work to enhance usage of slag-based manufactured aggregates which will replace natural aggregates.

A delegation from SER division led by Shri Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, SER, met Tata Steel senior executives and deliberated on the project execution today. GM, SER emphasised that utilisation of the sustainable alternatives is the need of the hour, and it will also help in conserving the ecology. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajeev Shrivastava, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) apprised about the ambitious plan chalked out to strengthen the rail infrastructure by the Ministry of Railways. He also applauded the role of Tata Steel in development of the sustainable building materials to cater to the needs of the construction industry.

In an endeavor to transform Steel Slag into sustainable aggregates, Tata Steel has set-up a state-of-the art accelerated weathering facility for processing of LD slag through steam ageing. A dedicated lab has been set-up to ensure Quality Assurance of the product. Tata Steel had launched India’s first branded LD slag products – Tata Aggreto and Tata Nirman. These initiatives of Tata Steel were well appreciated by the visiting team. The use of slag based manufactured aggregates helps in the preservation of biodiversity by reducing the need for mining of natural aggregates and eliminates the requirement of transportation of aggregates across large distances.

At Tata Steel, we are committed to Circular Economy principles and produce sustainable products having minimum ecological footprints. We have been successful in doing it constantly by adopting newer technologies and developing new products & applications.
