The NDA alliance made a powerful show of strength at Madurantakam. The event, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is being viewed as a significant political development as the 2026 elections approach. Sharing the same stage and standing hand in hand were AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, TMC leader G.K. Vasan, and AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran. The unity displayed by the NDA is expected to pose a challenge for the ruling DMK during the elections.

Strength test of the mega alliance

With this event formally marking the beginning of the 2026 Assembly election campaign, the present NDA alliance has emerged as a strong political force. The major parties and leaders present on the stage included:

  • AIADMK leader Edappadi Palaniswami

  • Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss

  • Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran

  • Tamil Maanila Congress leader G.K. Vasan

  • Indian Jananayaga Katchi leader Parivendar

  • Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader John Pandian

  • South Indian Forward Bloc leader Thirumaran

  • Puthiya Bharatham Party leader A.C. Shanmugam

  • Puratchi Bharatham Party leader Jeganmoorthy

  • IJK and Puthiya Needhi Katchi representatives

Notably, after being expelled from the AIADMK, EPS and T.T.V. Dhinakaran—who had remained political rivals for several years—have now been brought onto the same stage through mediation by the BJP leadership. This move is being seen as an effort to unite Jayalalithaa’s loyalists under a single umbrella.
