New Delhi, June 4: SKM President and Chief Minister PS Tamang (Golay) on Sunday evening called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhawan here following the announcement of results of Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024.
The SKM has swept the Sikkim Assembly Elections by winning 31 out of 32 seats.
With a resounding majority and for his second term in office, PS Tamang submitted his resignation letter from his current position, a Raj Bhawan release informs.
In response, the Governor extended the invitation for Golay to continue serving as Chief Minister until the formation of the new government.
This marks Tamang’s second term as the Chief Minister, and he will subsequently take the oath as the new Chief Minister of Sikkim.
During this meeting, the Governor conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the Chief Minister and his party for their victory and extended best wishes for the upcoming term. He remarked that this victory symbolizes the aspirations of the people and immense support, and trust they have garnered, the release mentions.
Later, all the newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), led by Prem Singh Tamang submitted a proposal signed by all the newly elected MLAs to the Governor. The proposal nominated Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) as the leader of the legislative party and the candidate for the post of Chief Minister for the 11th Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
The Governor expressed his confidence in the new government, stating, “I have full faith that the new government, under the leadership of Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), will work with full devotion for the development of the state and the welfare of the people.”
