Who Is Hillang Yajik?

One of the leading physique athletes in India, Hillang Yajik comes from the Kurung Kumey area in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. She recently created history when she won a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal in two different sporting events at the 15th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2025. This championship was held in Thimphu, Bhutan. Hillang Yajik is the first female physique sports athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win a gold medal at an international event.

Hillang Yajik won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Model Physique (up to 155 cm) category. She also won a Silver Medal in a different physique category. Hillang Yajik has a prestigious sporting career and she has won multiple medals in the past as well. For example, she won the silver medal in the Women’s Sports Physique category at the 13th Federation Cup in Goa in 2024. In 2022, Hillang Yajik had won a silver medal at the Model Physique category at the 11th Eastern Zone National Championship in Kolkata, held in 2022.

Targeting more Gold Medals at World Championships

Encouraged by her recent wins, Hillang Yajik is now aiming for even bigger targets such as medals at the Asian and World Championships. Apart from her interest in physique sports, Hillang Yajik wants to become a police officer, while continuing with her bodybuilding career. Her achievements have been praised by eminent people such as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu.

Hillang Yajik – Early life, education, career

A young physique athlete, Hillang Yajik was born on January 20, 2000. Her educational qualifications include a master’s degree in political science. Along with her sports career, Hillang Yajik also works as a dance instructor and fitness trainer. Her achievements are even more significant considering that she comes from a remote area that has limited resources.

Hillang Yajik became naturally interested in bodybuilding during her college years. Since professional equipment was not available, she used homemade weights for strength training. This highlights the fact that Hillang was determined and resourceful and willing to go the extra mile to achieve her goals. She also had to overcome societal stigma related to female bodybuilding.

To enter mainstream bodybuilding, Hillang Yajik competed in the national trials. These were organized by the Indian Body Builders Federation (IBBF). She qualified for the 56th Asian Bodybuilding Championship and the 15th WBPF World Championship in 2024. This required significant skills and performance when competing with other seasoned athletes.
