ICMR’s official journal, Indian Journal of Medical Research recognised for excellence in biomedical publishing
New Delhi: The Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR), the flagship publication of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to advancing biomedical research in India and beyond.
The award was presented at the National Blackbuck Awards for Medical Research, organised in the Capital by the National Medical Forum and Medical Dialogues.
Established in 1913, the fully open access, Medline-indexed journal ranks among the top 1.4% of global medical journals, with an H-index of 110, an Impact Factor of 2.5, and a CiteScore of 3.9. Published monthly, IJMR promotes high-quality research from underrepresented regions and emerging institutions across the country. Its open access model ensures that crucial scientific findings are freely available, enabling policymakers, clinicians, and researchers to act quickly on evidence-based insights. The journal has published landmark studies on COVID-19, tuberculosis control, and national immunization programs, directly influencing policy and clinical practice.
The National Blackbuck Awards for Medical Research were presented during the ceremony in Delhi, alongside the Medical Research Summit. Awardees were chosen through a two-stage process—initial screening followed by deliberations of a jury comprising leaders from ICMR, AIIMS New Delhi, and PGIMER & Dr. RML Hospital.
The awards were conferred by Dr. Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University; Dr. Abhijat Sheth, Chairperson of the National Medical Commission; and Shri Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport & Highways. Collecting the award on behalf of the IJMR and ICMR teams was Dr. Albina Nair, Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Organisers said the honour celebrates the journal’s dedication to shaping health policy, guiding clinical practice, and strengthening India’s standing in global biomedical publishing
