Apollo Cancer Centres Concludes ‘Tame the Fire!’ Prostate Cancer Awareness Drive

Hyderabad, Dec 3: Apollo Cancer Centres on Wednesday wrapped up its prostate cancer awareness programme, “Tame the Fire!”, aimed at driving home the message of early screening and timely medical attention for one of the most common cancers among men.

The event began with an introduction by Dr. R. Srinath Bharadwaj, followed by a formal welcome to dignitaries. Sri Vikram Singh Mann, Director General, Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency & Civil Defence Department, attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr. P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Centres, and Dr. Sanjai Kumar Addla, Senior Consultant Uro Surgical Oncologist.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy said, “Prostate cancer is a silent fire—slow, unnoticed, and often ignored until it grows beyond control. But when caught early, it is one of the most treatable cancers in men.”

The “Doctors Speak” session saw experts outline critical aspects of early diagnosis and treatment: Dr. Sanjai Kumar Addla stressed the impact of early detection. Dr. Ashwin M Shah, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist, explained key warning symptoms. Dr. S.V.S.S. Prasad, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist, highlighted advanced and emerging therapies.

Cancer survivors Mr. Sudhakar and Mr. Venu Gopal shared emotional testimonies on how timely screening helped save their lives.

A symbolic candle lighting and blowing ceremony depicting the act of ‘taming the fire’ was led by Chief Guest Sri Vikram Singh Mann, who urged men above 50, and those with a family history, to prioritise regular screening without hesitation.

Mr. Tejesvi Rao Veerapalli, Regional CEO, Apollo Hospitals, AP & Telangana, said, “Awareness is the first step toward prevention. At Apollo, our mission is to empower every individual with the knowledge and access they need to defeat cancer before it strikes.”

The programme concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Dr. Nikhil Suresh Ghadyalpatil, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist.
