The date 26/11 stands as a deep and painful reminder as Mumbai faced its most horrifying attack in history. This act of terror not only rattled the bustling city but also resonated fear throughout the globe. Key locations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Leopold Cafe, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, and Trident Hotel were targeted by terrorists, paralyzing the entire city and leading to the heartbreaking loss of numerous innocent lives. Even now, this tragic event lingers in the minds of every Indian. On the occasion of its 16th anniversary, tributes were offered to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for their country.
“Emerging from the ashes of devastation was a beacon of resolve and resilience that reflected in the spirit of every Mumbaikar. It is striking how Mumbai bounced back after witnessing such horror; its recovery symbolizes the indomitable human spirit’s triumph over fear and adversity. Even though the memories from dark days continue to haunt us, let’s take a moment to celebrate Mumbai’s fortitude by acknowledging that terror failed in bringing down our strength and unity. Mumbai stands united, ready to confront any adverse events,” said Rahul Arjunrao Dubale, Founder and President of Maharashtra Police Boys Association.
Dubale added, “The Maharashtra Police Boys Association has consistently held a commemorative event over the past 7 years to honor the police officers and civilians who lost their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks. This year, tribute will be paid across 33 districts in Maharashtra, with a torch rally held at Mumbai’s Gateway of India. We strongly encourage all to value and honor the tireless, selfless efforts of our law enforcement officers. During this event, prosthetic limbs will be fitted to differently-abled police officers by our association to improve their quality of life, become mobile, and do their daily activities without any difficulties. We have also petitioned the Government to establish a Police Family Welfare Association as a means of assisting families in need.”
“I would like to express my appreciation to Rahul Dubale for coordinating this tribute ceremony. November 26 holds significance for two reasons: it marks Constitution Day, or Samvidhan Divas, celebrated every year on this date. On this day in 2008, our Constitution and freedom were violently attacked by terrorists, resulting in a tragic loss of innocent lives through brutal shootings and bombings that shook the nation. Many lives were lost, and countless others were injured during this horrific event. In the face of such adversity, brave officers like Martyr Vijay Salaskar, Martyr Ashok Kamte, Martyr Hemant Karkare, and Martyr Tukaram Omble made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting us. Today is dedicated to honoring their memory and paying tribute to all those who fell victim to the 26/11 attacks. We are committed to ensuring that no such tragedy occurs again in Mumbai or anywhere else in India. This assault was not merely an attack on Mumbai; it aimed at undermining the economic capital of our country and sending a message about how India could be treated. However, our courageous policemen stood firm against these threats, demonstrating that India is a resilient and self-reliant nation,” said Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Shri. Devendra Fadnavis added, “On this occasion, issues concerning police officers were also addressed, marking a significant step forward. Rahul Dubale from the Maharashtra Police Boys Association is actively implementing solutions for the challenges faced by police personnel, especially since there is no existing union for them. The association diligently advocates for their legitimate demands to the government. I pledge that we will meet all the needs of police officers and their families regarding health, education, and employment both now and in the future. We firmly stand behind our policemen who maintain law and order in Maharashtra.”
