India has the largest pool of engineers in the world, with over 1.5 million new engineering graduates every year, as per AICTE. Indian engineers, both in India and abroad, are making a significant impact in global industries across various sectors – technology, civil engineering, and research.
Many of these engineers choose to pursue further studies in countries like the United States, the UK, and Germany, which enhances their global career prospects. Once abroad, many engineers of Indian origin find themselves in key roles in some of the most influential companies in the world.
The numbers speak for themselves when it comes to the growing influence of Indian engineers in global industries. According to a report by the National Science Foundation (NSF), India is the second-largest source of international engineers in the United States, with over 950,000 engineers working in various fields as of 2023.
Indian engineers are making their presence felt in global industries, especially with technological innovations. Indian-origin engineers are on the leadership boards of top tech companies. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, are two examples of Indian engineers, leading the charge in technological innovation. Their stories are an inspiration to many young engineers and a proof of Indian talent globally. According to a Nasscom study, in 2022-2023, 2.5 million STEM graduates were of Indian origin.
This is the massive role Indian engineers play in shaping the technology landscape globally. Engineering students funded by Prodigy Finance are also seeing great career outcomes. According to their impact report, 67% of new Prodigy borrowers in 2022 were engineering students, many of whom come from families earning less than $15,000 a year. These students, through their master’s degrees, are seeing huge financial benefits. 54% of them are making at least 4x their salary post-graduation.
Sonal Kapoor, Chief Commercial Officer at Prodigy Finance said, “The impact of Indian engineers across the world is undeniable. At Prodigy Finance, we are proud to support the next generation of Indian engineers as they pursue their education and take their place as leaders in global industries. By providing access to education funding, we’re empowering students to unlock their full potential and achieve remarkable career growth.”
Indian engineers are not just in the global economy, they are driving it, whether through leadership in MNCs, contributing to technological innovations, or advancing sectors like STEM. Their problem-solving mindset and ability to adapt to rapidly evolving industries are what make them highly sought after by companies worldwide.
