CARE Hospitals, Performs India’s First Bone Grafting Procedure Using Advanced Synthes RIA2 System

Hyderabad, 7th January, 2025: In a revolutionary step for orthopedic care in India, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, has achieved a significant milestone by performing India’s first bone grafting procedure using the advanced Synthes RIA2 system. This minimally invasive technique, led by Dr. Repakula Kartheek and his team, has set a new benchmark in orthopedic care, providing much-needed relief to Mr. Kotha Sai Santosh Reddy, a 31-year-old patient.
The patient had fractured his tibia eight months ago and underwent surgery at another hospital. Despite months of treatment, his fracture did not heal properly, and he was diagnosed with a non-union of the tibia bone.
Speaking about the procedure, Dr. Repakula Kartheek, Senior orthopedic Surgeon at CARE Hospitals, Malakpet said, “We removed the existing implant and performed a new surgery using an interlocking nail to stabilize the tibia. Instead of the conventional method of bone grafting, which involves taking bone from the hip (iliac crest), we used the Synthes RIA2 system to harvest the bone graft from the patient’s femur. This technique involved no extra incisions and reduced the risk of complications, making it safer and less painful.
“This is the first time the Synthes RIA2 system has been used in India for bone grafting. It’s a minimally invasive technique that avoids the challenges and discomfort of traditional procedures, helping patients recover faster” Dr. Kartheek added.
This innovative treatment highlights CARE Hospitals’ commitment to using cutting-edge technology to provide the best possible care. By adopting such advanced methods, the hospital ensures patients receive effective and efficient treatment with less discomfort and quicker recovery.
