Why Using ChatGPT And Other AI Tools For Blogs Is A Bad Idea?

Blogging is an art where you combine your creativity with information to come up with engaging and useful content for your target audience. Depending on your skills, blogging can take a lot of time and effort. However, with the recent influx of AI-based tools like ChatGPT, everyone can create content with ease. And that too in just a few seconds. It essentially puts a question mark on the future of blogging and content development.

But is it okay to use ChatGPT and other AI tools to generate content for your website? Does using ChatGPT influence Google Search rankings? To answer such questions, Newspatrolling.com carried out detailed research on the potential pitfalls of using ChatGPT and other AI-based content generation tools. All the research was done on Newspatrolling.com website. Some very surprising results were noticed, as described below.

Drop in Google search engine rankings – Within a few days of uploading content generated by ChatGPT, there was a drop in Google search rankings for the specific keywords. It was an unusual outcome, as search engine rankings for those specific keywords were largely constant prior to using ChatGPT content.

It is likely that Google and other search engines have a way of detecting AI generated content. And apparently, they do not seem to give preference to AI generated content. It implies that anyone using AI generated content may face the risk of being downgraded in search engine results.

Drop in website traffic – Overall traffic on Newspatrolling is fairly constant on most days. However, soon after uploading ChatGPT content, there was a significant drop in website traffic. After switching back to regular human-written content, the website traffic bounced back within few days. This indicates that Google and other search engines are probably using advanced algorithms to detect and discourage content generated by ChatGPT and other AI tools.

Inability to cover latest information – Most AI tools like ChatGPT are unable to include the latest information into the content. This can be a significant disadvantage to the readers. Of course, one can modify the content to include the latest info. But that will again require time and human effort. Doing all the mixing and perfecting it can take an even longer time. For blogs focused on news and current affairs, AI tools like ChatGPT have limited usability.

Lack of creativity – It is true that AI tools like ChatGPT can generate content within seconds. However, much of it is usually quite drab like Wiki pages. In comparison, the human brain can create content that is a lot more engaging. AI tools also lack the knowledge that comes with personal experiences. Only a human with experience can share unique, useful and interesting insights on a particular subject.

Repetitive content – AI tools like ChatGPT have immense capabilities to rewrite content. But there is a limit to how many times the same information can be reprocessed. For example, consider an average sentence with 15 to 20 words. Now, if an AI tool rewrites it 100 times, there will be a significant repetition of content. And as is common knowledge, search engines tend to downgrade repetitive content. No matter how smart AI tools get, the rule of permutation will continue to limit their usability.

As evident from above factors, AI tools like ChatGPT are not recommended for generating content for your blog or website. Of course, you can use it for various other purposes. For example, you can use AI tools for general search, writing emails, drafting letters and invitations, checking spelling and grammar, playing chess, learning to code, making presentations, etc. But it is better to avoid these for blogs and website content.
